Using the Zoom App to Connect Online

Use the Zoom app (program) to participate in the practice events listed in our Online Opportunities Calendar. Simply download the free “Zoom” application (program) to your device or computer using these steps:

Notes:

  • It isn’t necessary to sign up for a Zoom account when you download or use the app. However, if you do sign up it’s a free account and Zoom won’t harass you about subscribing or upgrading or anything. Zoom is a very above-board company with great customer service, so don’t worry about downloading their product.
  • Want see all the other people participating in a session? Select “gallery view” at the top right of the screen. You will be able to see everyone on a laptop, most people on a tablet, but only 4 people at a time on a phone (you can swipe left or right, though, to see who else is online).

Note: If a Zoom session involves meditation, the host may set it so when you join the meeting you will automatically be muted (you will hear the meeting but we won’t hear anything from you or your environment). Unfortunately, it doesn’t work to chant together on Zoom (the slight delays in the feed make for a chaotic, echo effect), so please keep yourself muted even during chanting. However, feel free to unmute yourself at the end to say hi/goodbye!
